USF Toler Hall / McLaren Conference Center

Univeristy of San Francisco - Toler Hall / McLaren Conference Center
San Francisco, CA

Part of a building renovation project, this landscape design provides a new entry to the buildings serving multiple constituents from students living in the dorms to the University Ministry and Conference Center visitors. To mitigate the grade changes around the building, Cor-ten steel walls were used to terrace the landscape.

Bands of shade and drought-tolerant grasses provide a progression of seasonal textures along the steel walls. Additionally, a sunken shade garden of ferns, mosses, and Japansese maples sits outside a student common room, creating an inside / outside connection to the campus.  This project was complete by O|CB Principal Meghen Quinn while at Quinn Landscape Architects.
